Apart from the possibility of costly DLC I think Steam is great. And here is another example of why. This weekend the Orange Box which includes Half Life 2, Half Life Ep1&2, Portal and Team Fortress 2 is only US$10 which is a pretty good deal. I think I preordered it for $40 and thought it was a good deal then Would people be interested in having this as a prize for some comp at a future BSLAN?

That's actually a really good idea Thommo. Do you mean to buy it as a gift card thing on steam?
If you buy it as a gift does it matter when you activate it as to how much it costs?

Well people didn't get back in time so I didn't do it but I will keep it in mind for next time a deal comes up. I don't think it matters when you activate it. What I was going to do in this situation was to gift it to a random email address that is in my name that isn't my steam account then resend the invitation to whoever won the comp. Steam Website wrote: Do gifts expire if they are not redeemed in a certain amount of time? Gifts will not expire once they have been issued. Once the gift purchase has been activated, the game is permanently subscribed to the Steam account that it was redeemed on. I sent a Steam gift to a friend's email address, but that person already owns this game. Can I give this gift to someone else? Yes, provided your friend has not already redeemed your gift using a different Steam account. To give your gift to a different friend, install Steam if you haven't already done so. After logging into your account, click on the "Games" menu and select "Manage gifts and guest passes". From the Gifts and Guest Passes dialog, highlight the gift in question and select "Resend" to give your gift to a new recipient.

TF2 is US$10 this weekend. Not quite as good as Orange Box for $10 though.

Steam has some pretty awesome deals. It shouldn't be too long till the Orange Box is on special again.

I hope so... that orange box deal was pretty awesome. So was getting Bioshock for US$5. I still have copy spare copy of HL2 and HL2: Ep1 as well.

Isn't Commander Keen freeware by now. I think I got that for free with a magazine 10 years ago.

Free still seems like a better price Although, I just had a look and looks like you can only legally get the shareware version. I just thought something like that would be free by now.

TF2 is on sale this weekend at certain times for $2.50. So go buy it if you haven't already and if you like the game. There are no excuses when it costs hardly anything. I've been trying to get a couple of copies to maybe be prizes or just give to people but I just missed out.

Everyone should check out steam for the next 5 days for some great deals!! Deal are for 1 day only so you'll need to check everyday. http://store.steampowered.com/early-holidayIf some good deals come up we could use those games as prizes for BSLAN 024

L4D $7.50 today. Borderlands still $55 even though its 33% off... I hate it when they put games on steam at high localised prices instead of just the US prices.

I was curious why I was seeing you playing Titan Quest. Is that pack is usually US$99? Getting it for $50 seems pretty sweet although nothing really excites me in it.

Grr... Steam has some great deals sometimes but it has mad me angry again today. It's not really their fault though. 2k games have decided to sell Bioshock 2 on steam in Oz for US$80 while its only US$50 in the US. I really hate this markup that publishers put on their games like this and even worse with MW2. It's bad enough when it cost $100 in stores but at least they have the import excuse. On steam 2k are just making $30 more per copy sold here. At these prices its probably cheaper to buy in a store other than EB games that have games are slightly more reasonable prices.

I know I sound like a Steam hater at times but it's really just the developers been greedy. Just wanted to say that before people call me a hypocrite for saying how much I like steam. Bringing this up because I was wondering if anyone had tried the new UI. I never really thought of steam looking ugly but it does make a difference.

how dare steam buy out exclusive rights to MW2, the fact that really pissed me off about it is the LAN capabilities and how net hungry it is..... Oh yeah COD6 has lan capabilities.......but you all need to be hooked up to the night to sign in and play...... What the heck are they on? I also hated the password log in thing that constantly changes everytime u do something on steam, secret answer thing pisses me off. but the reset password code never changes, wtf up with that

I refuse to buy any game that is more expensive in the Australian store so I guess I'll never know. I blame Activision for all the screwed up things going on with COD6.
