I'm not sure how many people are into Stargate hear but their has been a recent announcement that Atlantis is finishing up and a new show called Stargate Universe will begin next year. I watched pretty much all of SG-1 and I did like Atlantis but found it hard to watch with weird TV times and jumping seasons ahead watching the odd downloaded episode so I will probably start watching Universe.
The thing I noticed is - you might notice after reading an extract of a press release below - some similarities between the various Stargate spinoffs and the StarTrek shows. The movie and SG1 is where it began and I compare it to the original series of StarTrek and later episodes with Next Generation. Atlantis is similar to Deep Space Nine where its about a Space Station far from earth. And Universe sounds exactly like Voyager. Maybe the next series of Stargate will try to reinvent the series many years after Universe is forgotten and completely fail like Enterprise.

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.
What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.
The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission. Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny and the crew is unable to control the ship's navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.
